“Taking a new step”
Fox News: “The leading outside group that supports congressional Republicans is taking a new step as it makes its first ever endorsements of House GOP candidates. The Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), which is closely aligned with House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy, announced on Wednesday that it’s backing 11 Republicans running in Democratic controlled or open seats, or districts newly created through reapportionment from the 2020 census.”
“A good indicator of the districts where CLF is likely to spend money to run ads in autumn”
Fox News: “CLF says this is their first round of Trailblazers endorsements, and that additional candidates will be added to the list in the coming months. And it’s fair to say that the list is a good indicator of the districts where CLF is likely to spend money to run ads in autumn in the runup to the midterms.”
“11 Republicans running for seats that are open, controlled by Democrats or newly created”
The Hill: “The new slate of endorsements was just the second in its history, after endorsing now-Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.) in a special election last year. The endorsements Wednesday are for 11 Republicans running for seats that are open, controlled by Democrats or newly created under the redistricting process. Republicans are increasingly bullish that they will be able to take back the House later this year.”
POLITICO: “The Congressional Leadership Fund endorsed 11 Republicans running in Democratic or open seats via its Trailblazers Fund, Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser wrote. The fund, which is an outside group that backs House Republicans, endorsed Juan Ciscomani in AZ-06, Esther Joy King in IL-17, Amanda Adkins in Kansas, former Rep. Bruce Poliquin in ME-02, former Interior secretary and former Rep. Ryan Zinke in MT-01, Tom Kean in NJ-07, Morgan Luttrell in TX-08, Monica De La Cruz in TX-15, Wesley Hunt in TX-38, Jen Kiggans in VA-02 and Derrick Van Orden in Wisconsin.”
NBC News: “The super PAC Congressional Leadership Fund, which is aligned with House GOP leadership, announced its first-ever endorsements of 11 candidates for its Trailblazers Fund, a new arm of the group that can direct funds to GOP candidates.”
“Chosen for their significant achievement and impressive character”
One America News: “The CLF announced they will be providing a major financial support to a number of campaigns that reflect their beliefs. They have chosen the first 11 trailblazers based on their significant achievement and impressive character. These individuals include Tom Kean Jr of New Jersey, Bruce Poliquin of Maine and Morgen Luttrell of Texas, among others.”
“Former Navy helicopter pilot and registered nurse who leads the Republican field in fundraising”
Washington Post: The contestin the 2nd Congressional District is likely to be one of the most closely watched in the nation, as Luria seeks to defend the seat she flipped blue in 2018 while national Republicans pour huge resources into seeking to regain it. The Congressional Leadership Fund — the House GOP’s super PAC — announced this week that it’s backing Virginia Del. Jen Kiggans (R-Virginia Beach), a former Navy helicopter pilot and registered nurse who leads the Republican field in fundraising.
“House Republican leaders just made Tom Kean Jr. a top priority to topple N.J. Democrat”
NJ Star Ledger: State Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean Jr.’s congressional campaign received a major boost Wednesday when he became one of the first 11 candidates endorsed by the House GOP leaders’ super political action committee. The Congressional Leadership Fund’s support will bring with it direct financial support for Kean, helping to offset Democratic Rep. Tom Malinowski’s current financial advantage.
“indication that national Republicans are prepared to fight for Kean”
NJ Globe: “The Congressional Leadership Fund named Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) as one of its first 11 ‘Trailblazer’ candidates… The CLF’s announcement today, then, is a further indication that national Republicans are prepared to fight for Kean to become the Republican nominee in the seat.”
