Zephyr Teachout is a Sellout
Like Bernie Sanders, Zephyr Teachout sold out to Hillary Clinton, leaving grassroots supporters who fueled their primary campaigns heartbroken. That’s right folks, Teachout has endorsed the same candidate she once called out for having not 1, 2, or 3 BUT “four big corruption problems.”
This endorsement coupled with an upcoming fundraiser with a PAC-loving, Washington Democrat flies in the face of Teachout’s crusade against corruption and money in politics. Don’t take my word for it. Check out Teachout’s blistering opinion piece on Clinton and corruption via The Huffington Post:
“Hillary Clinton has some corruption problems. And this is a corruption election.
“And into this corruption moment comes Hillary Clinton, who has four big corruption problems.
“The first is that she is intimately related to a foundation that raises millions of dollars on a daily basis from the most powerful corporations in the world. The second is that she and her husband have made millions of dollars in speaking fees from the most powerful corporations in the world. The third is that a Super PAC supporting her has raised money from individuals representing the most powerful corporations in the world. And the fourth is that shared by all candidates — her fundraising relies on donations from the most powerful wealthy individuals in America.
“If Hillary Clinton wants to light up the country in either the general election or the primary, she needs to take a leadership role — not a lip service role — in a basic, in-the-guts overhaul of how politics works in this country.
“The country is moving towards a complete overhaul — right now Clinton is behind the curve. She seems to think that sympathy with our anger about corporate power is enough — but it’s not. I hope she changes her mind.”
Teachout hasn’t even arrived in Washington, yet signs indicate Washington Democrats have already changed her mind.
BACKGROUND:
Zephyr Teachout Endorsed Clinton After Bernie Sanders’s Endorsement
On July 12, 2016, Teachout Endorsed Clinton In A WAMC Radio Interview. “‘I am proud to support her,’ @ZephyrTeachout tells @AlanChartock. She was backed by Sanders in the early going. #NY19” (WAMC News, Twitter, 7/12/16) WAMC: “The ‘Her’ Being @HillaryClinton, Of Course.” (WAMC News, Twitter, 7/12/16)
On July 12, 2016, Bernie Sanders Endorsed Clinton. “Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders formally declared an end to their political rivalry Tuesday, joining forces to take on a shared enemy: Donald Trump. ‘I have come here to make it as clear as possible why I am endorsing Hillary Clinton and why she must become our next president,’ Sanders said at a joint rally here. ‘Secretary Clinton has won the Democratic nomination and I congratulate her for that.’” (MJ Lee, Dan Merica, And Jeff Zeleny, “Bernie Sanders Endorses Hillary Clinton,” CNN, 7/12/16)
Teachout Bashed Clinton’s “Corruption” In A November 2015 Huffington Post Op-Ed
Teachout Op-Ed, November 2015: “Hillary Clinton Has Some Corruption Problems.” “Hillary Clinton has some corruption problems. And this is a corruption election. She can address it head on, but so far she hasn’t done nearly enough. The last debate she was completely silent on the issue. To show she’s serious, she needs a total commitment to the issue in Saturday’s debate.” (Zephyr Teachout, Op-Ed, “Clinton’s Corruption Problem And Saturday’s Debate,” The Huffington Post, 11/12/15)
Teachout: Clinton “Has Four Big Corruption Problems” – The Clinton Foundation, Speaking Fees, Her Super PAC, And Her Wealthy Contributors. “And into this corruption moment comes Hillary Clinton, who has four big corruption problems. None of them have to do with Benghazi. The first is that she is intimately related to a foundation that raises millions of dollars on a daily basis from the most powerful corporations in the world. The second is that she and her husband have made millions of dollars in speaking fees from the most powerful corporations in the world. The third is that a Super PAC supporting her has raised money from individuals representing the most powerful corporations in the world. And the fourth is that shared by all candidates — her fundraising relies on donations from the most powerful wealthy individuals in America.” (Zephyr Teachout, Op-Ed, “Clinton’s Corruption Problem And Saturday’s Debate,” The Huffington Post,11/12/15)
Teachout: “The Country Is Moving Towards A Complete Overhaul—Right Now Clinton Is Behind The Curve.” “The country is moving towards a complete overhaul — right now Clinton is behind the curve. She seems to think that sympathy with our anger about corporate power is enough — but it’s not. I hope she changes her mind. The house is on fire in our democracy, and before we can do anything — fix the roof, update the plumbing — we need to put out the fire. And she needs to show that she’s with us, with more than a few words.” (Zephyr Teachout, Op-Ed, “Clinton’s Corruption Problem And Saturday’s Debate,” The Huffington Post, 11/12/15)
