Top Operative Charlie Spies Joins Congressional Leadership Fund

Will Serve as a Senior Advisor for CLF, known as “House GOP Leadership’s Super PAC”

WASHINGTON – The Congressional Leadership Fund (@CLFSuperPAC), the super PAC exclusively dedicated to protecting and growing the House Republican Majority, announced today that Charlie Spies is joining as a Senior Advisor. Spies, a veteran campaign finance and election law operative, most recently served as Co-Founder and Treasurer of Restore Our Future, the pro-Romney super PAC that raised over $150 million in the 2012 election cycle.

“House Republicans held our House Majority in 2012 by listening to the American people and focusing on solutions to let our economy grow,” House Speaker John Boehner said. “The Congressional Leadership Fund plays a critical role in helping deliver our message on jobs, debt and freedom directly to voters, and as President Obama and his allies work to destroy our Majority in 2014, I know House Republicans can count on CLF to take the fight to Democrats in race after race.”

“Charlie Spies’ reputation speaks for itself,” said CLF Chairman Sen. Norm Coleman. “2012’s most effective GOP super PAC is excited to grow further as we fight big government, big labor bosses, and the job killing agenda of President Obama and his political operation for control of the U.S. House.”

From 2011-2012, CLF raised a combined $55 million with their sister-organization the American Action Network, a 501c4 primarily focused on advocating for center-right policy solutions and the center-right movement. Additionally, the Sunlight Foundation rated the $21 million in independent expenditures spent by AAN & CLF the #1 and #2 Highest “Returns on Investment” of conservative groups.

“The House Republicans led by Speaker Boehner are the last line of defense stopping Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi’s reckless agenda,” said Senior Advisor Charlie Spies. “The Congressional Leadership Fund was critical to protecting the House Republican Majority in the tough 2012 cycle and will be even more important as the Obama machine turns its sights on House Republicans in 2014. I’m proud to join Speaker Boehner’s allies at CLF as we lead the fight to defend the U.S. House.”

“This is a coup for CLF and the House Republicans we support,” said CLF President Brian O. Walsh. “Charlie’s expertise and wise counsel will be pivotal in growing CLF as we fight to protect and grow the House Republican Majority under the leadership of Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor.”

Charlie Spies leads the National political law practice at Clark Hill PLC, as well as runs the firm’s Washington DC office. He has served as Chief Financial Officer and Counsel for Governor Mitt Romney’s 2008 Presidential campaign, General Counsel and Chief Financial Officer for the Republican Governors Association during the 2005 and 2006 election cycles, and during President George W. Bush’s re-election in 2004 election cycle, Mr. Spies served as Election Law Counsel for the Republican National Committee.

The Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) is the super PAC focused exclusively on preserving and expanding the Republican Majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. CLF’s inaugural event in 2011 featured Speaker John Boehner, all of House Republican leadership, and over 80 Members of Congress. The super PAC’s board is chaired by former Senator and  American Action Network Chairman Norm Coleman (R-MN), and includes Fred Malek and former NRCC Chairman Tom Reynolds (R-NY). CLF is an independent-expenditure super PAC that operates independently of any federal candidate or officeholder.
