CLF Statement on Speaker John Boehner
WASHINGTON – Congressional Leadership Fund Chairman and former Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) released the following statement after Speaker of the House John Boehner announced his resignation:
“I have been honored to call John Boehner my friend since the days he encouraged me to become a candidate for the United States Senate. Like many throughout America, I have watched this son of a bar owner rise to the greatest heights of power yet remain humble and grateful for his family, the people he has served and the country he loves. Those of us who were fortunate to work alongside John Boehner, or catch up with him in Washington, D.C. or elsewhere in America, were always greeted with a firm handshake and the first question was always about our family.
“In a testament to the power of his leadership, John Boehner led House Republicans from a deep minority to the largest Republican majority since 1928. History will conclude that John Boehner’s leadership as Speaker of the House was an unparalleled success. More importantly, I know for John Boehner, is that in the end, with this selfless decision to step aside in the interests of the institution he honors on behalf of the country he loves, he will be remembered for simply being a decent and patriotic American who did his duty as he felt it must be done. Godspeed, John Boehner. You have served your nation well.”
Congressional Leadership Fund is the House GOP super PAC exclusively dedicated to preserving and growing the House Republican Majority. CLF, along with its sister 501(c)(4) American Action Network, spent nearly $20 million in independent expenditures on U.S. House races in 2014.
