CLF Launches Six-Figure Ad Campaign Holding Democrats Accountable For Flipping To Support Nancy Pelosi

Campaign Will Reach Swing Voters in Districts of Freshman Democrats Who Broke Their Word And Supported Pelosi

WASHINGTON – On the heels of the vote for Speaker of the House of Representatives, Congressional Leadership Fund (@CLFSuperPAC), the super PAC endorsed by House Republican leadership, released a six-figure digital ad campaign targeting freshman Democrats who broke their word with voters and supported Nancy Pelosi for speaker. The ads will run for the next month on digital platforms reaching swing voters in the following congressional districts: CA-39 (Gil Cisneros), KS-03 (Sharice Davids), MI-11 (Haley Stevens), MN-03 (Dean Phillips), NJ-03 (Andy Kim), and TX-07 (Lizzie Fletcher).

“Newly elected Democrats told voters things would be different in Washington, but with their very first vote they caved to party bosses and supported Nancy Pelosi for speaker,” said Dan Conston, CLF President. “While it takes some politicians years to sell out, it took these Democratic members just one day to break their bond with voters back home.”

VO: Gil Cisneros told us this time would be different.

CISNEROS: “I think it’s time for new voices and new leadership. I think it’s time for new people to step up and new people to start filling those leadership roles.”

VO: But… with his very first vote in Congress he caved to the party bosses and voted to make Nancy Pelosi speaker.

The same failed leadership, the same insiders pulling the strings.

It takes most politicians years to sell out.

But Gil Cisneros broke his bond with voters.

 On the very first day.

MODERATOR: “Real quick, Dean Phillips would you stand up to Nancy Pelosi? Would you vote for her to be the leader of the Democrats if you win this election?”

PHILLIPS: “No. It’s time for new leadership on both sides of the aisle.”

VO: But… with his very first vote in Congress. Dean Phillips caved to the party bosses.

And fell right in line, voting to support Nancy Pelosi for speaker.

The same failed leadership, the same insiders pulling the strings.

It takes most politicians years to sell out.

But Dean Phillips broke his bond with voters.

On the very first day.

BACKGROUND

 Gil Cisneros (CA-39)

  • “I think it’s time for new voices and new leadership. I think it’s time for new people to step up and new people to start filling those leadership roles.” (Gil Cisneros, Remarks With Bloomberg’s Kevin Cirilli, 8/10/2018)
  • “‘While I respect Leader Pelosi’s years of advocacy on behalf of California and the Democratic Party, it’s time for new leadership,’ Gil Cisneros, who is running for an Orange County seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Ed Royce, said in a statement explaining why he won’t support the Democratic leader if his party takes back the House and Pelosi runs for speaker.” (John Wildermuth, “Some California Dems Trying To Flip The House Are Backing Away From Pelosi,” San Francisco Chronicle, 6/21/18)

Sharice Davids (KS-03)

  • Q: “So you want new leadership in the house Democratic caucus?” DAVIDS: “I want – I want new leadership across the board (laughter) because I think that – I just think the leadership of both parties can – I just want to see people who are coming out with plans for how we are going to get stuff done in DC.” Q: “So you wouldn’t vote for Nancy Pelosi again as the Democratic leader?” DAVIDS: “Well I’m not going to vote for anybody that doesn’t lay out a clear plan for what we need to do to break away from the inaction in congress and the disfunction.” (Steve Kraske & Danie Alexander, “Seg. 1: Sharice Davids Wants “New Leadership Across The Board.” Seg. 2: Vampires In Film.” KCUR, 10/19/18, 11:00 mark)
