The AOC Effect, New York Edition

Less than a year ago, socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took out New York powerbroker Joe Crowley in the Democratic primary, and now New York’s comfortable political establishment is suddenly racing to prepare for the next round of far-left challengers.

According to The New York Times, AOC and her socialist allies are already recruiting primary challengers to Democratic mainstays in New York. Jerry Nadler, Eliot Engel, Tom Suozzi, Yvette Clarke, and others are likely targets.

The NYT outlines how insurgents are preparing to battle the entrenched establishment — targeting as many as a half-dozen Democratic Members of Congress in and around New York City — over what it means to be a Democrat and a progressive.

“As a comfortable New York Democratic establishment wakes up to challenges from Ocasio-Cortez’s not-so-merry band of socialists, Democrats across the country should be very, very worried. If New York Democrats are no longer liberal enough, who can be? Everyday Americans will reject the Democratic sprint towards socialism, and the AOC Effect will give Republicans even more offensive opportunities across the country in 2020,” said Congressional Leadership Fund VP Zach Hunter.
