ICYMI: Hertel Under Fire for Misusing Public Funds to Gain Cushy Job
A watchdog group sent a letter requesting that the Michigan inspector general investigate Curtis Hertel for misusing taxpayer dollars to land himself a cushy, high-paying job.
Here’s what we know:
- As director of legislative affairs for Gov. Whitmer, Hertel was “intimately involved” in negotiating the state’s budget, sending $1.5 billion to the Greater Flint Health Coalition – a group conveniently run by one of Hertel’s former colleagues.
- Then, just days after the budget was finalized, Hertel left Whitmer’s office to work at – you guessed it – the Greater Flint Health Coalition…
- Hertel’s salary became more than DOUBLE the average salary in Michigan.
“Curtis Hertel’s true colors have been revealed, and he’s nothing but a slimy, self-serving politician,” said CLF Regional Press Secretary Maureen O’Toole. “It’s clearer than ever that Hertel is not interested in serving Michiganders, he’s only interested in serving himself.”
