FACT CHECK: Tom Suozzi ❤ Higher Taxes

Hi there –

Tom Suozzi just went on Fox News and proclaimed his love for raising taxes.

When asked if he would support raising taxes, Suozzi said “I only support it at the national level. I wouldn’t support it at the local level…Wherever you go in the country, I am all for you paying higher taxes.”

Raising taxes nationally isn’t a good look. Neither is lying to your constituents.

Tom Suozzi DID raise taxes at the local level, despite claiming he wouldn’t support that.

Turns out, Suozzi has a lengthy history of raising LOCAL taxes as county executive of Nassau County.

  • In 2002,  Suozzi raised taxes by close to 20 percent. Property taxes increased by more than $125 million for residents that year.
  • In 2009, there was an increase in property tax of close to 4 percent, or about $40 million.
  • In 2009, Suozzi proposed a tax on energy use for Nassau County residents, costing close to $40 million.

P.S. The irony is not lost on us that Tom Suozzi admits New Yorkers are leaving the state and flocking to Republican-run states because Democrats like himself have run New York into the ground.
