What Janelle Bynum’s New Ad Conveniently Omits

Janelle Bynum’s new ad brags that she’s worked to “recriminalize fentanyl and other hard drugs” in the state legislature. But her ad fails to mention, not surprisingly, that the only reason those drugs needed to be recriminalized is because Janelle Bynum pushed a measure to decriminalize them in the first place.

And that measure continues to devastate Oregon:

  • Homelessness is on the rise, and it’s turned some communities into a “war zone.”
  • Deadly fentanyl overdoses have nearly quadrupled since the measure passed in 2020.
  • And 50% of Oregon voters feel that it’s made their community less safe.

“Janelle Bynum wants to take credit for trying to solve the very problem she created, but the damage has already been done,” said CLF Regional Press Secretary Maureen O’Toole. “Oregon communities are less safe because of Bynum, and voters won’t forget that.”
